Corporate Membership

The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) is an apex professional body of Civil Engineering professionals which is the first Institution of its kind in the country. The Institution confers professional status by way of admitting such person and Institutions as may be fulfilling the necessary requirements for various grades of membership of ICE (I).


Corporate


1. Honorary Fellows

Honorary Fellows shall be distinguished persons who from their positions have been or are enabled to render assistance in the prosecution of public works.
A person eminent in science and experience in pursuits connected with the profession of Civil Engineering whether or not engaged in the practice of that profession. The Board of Management will be the authority to nominate the person as Honorary Fellows. Each Honorary Fellow shall be entitled to the use of the designatory letters "Hon FICE (I)"


2. Fellows

He/She has a minimum age of 40 years at the time of his/her application and has been in the class of Member of the Institution for a period of 5 years or such shorter period as the Institution may decide in any particular case on its merit. The condition of the Membership may be waived off and the person may be admitted directly to the class of Fellow if in the opinion of the Institution this will improve the image of the institution. The candidate shall be a professionally qualified engineer and shall have held the position of significant responsibility of promotion, planning, design, construction, maintenance or management of important engineering works for a period of 15 years or such shorter period as the Institution may decide.
OR
The candidate shall have high educational qualification and either have made some outstanding or notable contribution to the science or engineering or have materially advanced the practice of engineering from the academic, research, technical or management standpoint; and the candidate shall occupy such a prominent position in the profession of Civil Engineering that his/her admission as fellow would in the opinion of the Institution advance the interest of the institution.
OR
The candidate shall have obtained a high reputation in the field of Civil Engineering sustained over a number of years, possesses some tangible recognition of eminence and have made some significant contribution to Civil Engineering achievements such that the candidate’s admission as a Fellow would in the opinion of the Institution advance the interest of the Institution.
OR
Employment as a professor of engineering or as a senior member of the engineering faculty in a University or College which has a regular course of study leading to an academic qualification approved by the Institution or in employment in a responsible position on important engineering research or in the management.
Each Fellow shall be entitle to the use of the designatory letters FICE (I).


3. Chartered Engineers

The ICE(I) considered this aspect of up gradation of the Grades of Membership and decided to incorporate “Corporate Engineers” as another category of membership to facilitate its Associate Members, to gain this position with the style and title as “Chartered Engineers”. The Chartered Engineer is the one who has degree level qualifications, who continuously upgrades his skills and knowledge in his chosen domain and conforms to the code of ethics of ICE(I).


Eligibility for Certification

1. AMICE(I) or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering / equivalent qualification as approved by the AICTE/ Government of India.
2. Three years’ experience as an Engineer of which atleast one years in a responsible position in Engineering activity.
3. Life Membership of ICE(I).


Process of Selection

1. All applications for Chartered Engineers shall be made on the prescribed Application form which can be downloaded from the website of ICE(I).
2. A Selection Board of renowned Engineers will make online selection as per schedule notified.
3. The decision of the Selection Board shall be final and binding.


Membership Fee

1. Rs. 3000/- (non-refundable). The fee is subject to renewal after every five years.
2. The fee should be drawn in favour of ICE(I) through NEFT/Demand Draft payable at Ludhiana which should accompany the Application form.


Certification

All candidates who apply for grant of the status if Charted Engineer and who are selected by the selection board of ICE(I) will be certified by the ICE(I) and granted Certificate thereof



4. Members

He/She has minimum age of 25 years at the time of his/her application.
He/She possesses the degree of Civil Engineering from a reputed University / Engineering College or shall have passed an academic examination, which permits exemption from Section A and Section B examination of the Institution.
He/She has acquired practical experience of 5 years or such shorter period but atleast one year after graduation (as the Institution may decide) in a manner satisfactory to the Institution, in promotion, planning, design, construction, maintenance or management of such works as are comprised within the profession of a Civil Engineer or in Civil Engineering research or teaching of engineering course leading to the qualification approved by the Institution for minimum period of 2 years.


(i) Life Membership

Each Member shall be entitle to the use of the designatory letters MICE (I)


Membership Fee

1. The lifetime fee is Rs. 5500/- (non-refundable).
2. The fee should be drawn in favour of ICE(I) through NEFT/Demand Draft payable at Ludhiana which should accompany the Application form.


(ii) Honorary Membership

An Honorary shall be: a person who has achieved eminence through the quality of his work in the field of Civil Engineering and allied fields; a distinguished person in the field of science/ technology/ industry whose association with the Institution will advance its progress and empanelled with ICE(I) as an expert.
OR
A distinguished person whom the Institution desires to honor.
Hon. members are selection by the Governing Council.
Each Member shall be entitle to the use of the designatory letters MICE (I).


5. Institutional Member ICE(I)

Amongst the different Grades of Membership of ICE (I), Institutional Members (Students Chapter) occupy a very significant position. ICE (I) therefore grants this membership after satisfying itself to the credibility of the Institution applying for such membership.


(i) Eligibility

Any educational Institution, body or organization involved in advancing the interests of Civil/Architectural Engineering is eligible to apply for membership of ICE (I) as Institutional Member.


(ii) Institutional Member (Student's Chapter) of ICE(I)

In order to facilitate the candidates to complete their desired course there are student's Chapters throughout the country. These Chapters provide information about the programmes and policies of ICE (I) and register students for enrolment. These Chapters also assist in the conduct of practical and submission of Project Report through and AICTE approved Institution. For all details regarding enrolment, examination etc. candidates can contact the respective chapter in their area.
The interested organization may apply to become the Training Partner of ICE(I)


Institutional Member (Industrial Chapter) of ICE(I)

In order to collaborate with the Industries, particularly, related to the Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering area, the Institution of Civil Engineers (India) will have interaction with such Institutions to actively participate in the activities of the ICE (I). It will be a two-way traffic between the ICE I) and the Industry concerned to keep themselves updated as to the various developments and activities going on in the respective spheres. This will also create awareness amongst the employees of the respective organizations about the happenings and developments at national and international level. Such industries will be granted Membership as Institutional Members (Industrial Chapter) of the ICE (I).
